Thank you for applying for an OKCon 2013 travel bursary. The final date to submit your request was Sunday 14th July, 23:59:59 GMT. The selected applicants will be contacted by the end of July 2013.

OKCon 2013 is happy to announce that we have received a grant to support travel bursaries to help some people with limited financial resources take part in the conference this September. A special thanks goes to the Foundation Open Society Institute (FOSI), a Swiss charitable foundation within the Open Society Foundations, which helped to make this possible.

Our travel bursaries cover:

  • international travel and transport costs from your city of departure and back – please note that we can only offer to cover economy class fares
  • accommodation (which we’ll be glad to book for you) – maximum 3 nights (Monday 16th September – Wednesday 18th September) if you’re coming from a European country, maximum 4 nights (Sunday 15th September – Wednesday 18th September) if you’re coming from another continent
  • lunch at the conference venue on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th September.

Because we are a community-driven, mostly volunteer-run event, OKCon ticket costs are not covered by these travel bursaries. If you are awarded a travel bursary, you will be ask to purchase your ticket within the two following business days after you’ll have received our confirmation.

Who are the bursaries for?

These bursaries are intended for anybody who can make a significant contribution to the event, but who is not able take part without financial aid. Due to limited funds, we cannot give the bursaries to all applicants, so we will prioritise those who are already working to build the programme in some way (e.g. guest programme advisors, speakers, moderators) or who will otherwise make a significant contribution to OKCon. We will also prioritise those who demonstrate that they cannot make it to Geneva on their own without financial help.

How to apply?

Please fill out the form that you will find on this page. The deadline for the applications is Sunday 14th July, 23:59:59 GMT. Those applicants selected to participate will have two business days to reply by e-mail to the offer and purchase their ticket (if not already done so) before the offer may be made to other qualified applicants.

How to claim your bursary?

The detailed guidelines for claiming the bursary will be provided with the confirmation email. Bursaries can be claimed before 26th August and between 23rd – 26th September, 2013 (the break between these times is due to the OKCon team being hard at work to deliver this exciting event!). Please note that we will not be able to reimburse any costs after the 26th September.
