About OKCon 2013

The Open Knowledge Foundation is delighted to invite you to the 2013 Open Knowledge Conference (OKCon) in Geneva, Switzerland on 16th-18th September. OKCon is the world’s leading open data and open knowledge conference, running since 2005.

Our line-up of speakers this year already includes Ellen Miller (Sunlight Foundation), John Ellis (CERN and Kings College, London), Chris Vein (World Bank) and Victoria Stodden (Columbia University). Many more will be announced very soon.

Our theme for OKCon 2013 is OPEN DATA – Broad, Deep Connected. In the last few years we have seen government open data initiatives grow and become important in areas such as research, culture and international development. OKCon will explore how open data is not only expanding geographically but also touching new sectors and new areas. It will focus on how we can coordinate and strengthen public policy around the world to support a truly global and interconnected ecosystem of open data.

Pre-conference, conference and satellite events

OKCon 2013 will take place from 16th to 18th September.
On Monday 16th September we’ll take over the conference centre for a busy pre-conference programme with workshops, lightning talks and hacking sessions.
The 2-day main conference will kick off on Tuesday and offer a line-up of high-level featured speakers, the crème de la crème of the proposals we received from all over the world and workshops and sessions hosted by Sunlight Foundation, World Bank, Open Government Partnership and many more.
We’ll close the conference on Wednesday night with a party (of course) but still wake up with our minds fresh the day after to join the satellite events that will take place all around town on Thursday, 19th September.

OKCon 2013 is jointly organized by the Open Knowledge Foundation, Open Knowledge Foundation Switzerland with the support of the Swiss Government, and with Lift Events as the production partner.
