Open Data in the newsroom: How should a workflow for data-journalist look like?

Currently there is much progress in many fields: Data becomes accessible. There are numerous tools to find, filter, refine and visualize what is there. But, in order to make data an accepted part of original reporting (as opposed to re-reporting the work of others) there are considerable barriers. This talk will present ongoing work on both a curriculum to train journalists and an innovative workflow currently under development. Why training and new platforms are important? While there is a lot of progress in many data fields, but the typical data-journalist today is performing a one-man-show. Yes, there is some change at The Guardian and the New York Times, but what about all the other media outlets? Colleagues there are usually not supported by superiors, the CMSs in use.
