EU Digital Agenda and Open Data
The talk presents the European Commission’s and activities in the area of open data. This is put into the context of the Digital Agenda for Europe and the general strategy of openness across a number of fields that is pursued by Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes (e.g. when it comes to e-government, access to scientific information and digitisation of culture).
An important and very topical subject is the EU directive on the re-use of public sector information (PSI directive) which is currently being reviewed following a public consultation. Moreover, preparatory work is underway for the creation of both a portal to open data collected by EU Institutions and of a site to link open data portals across Europe.
